Sometime ago, University of Cape Coast students noticed an on-going structure being erected at Science, near the main Library block. Many were those who wondered what the structure that was being put up was for. A VNN chat with Mr. Isaac Ohene, Deputy Registrar, Academic threw more light on this beautiful structure. According to Mr. Isaac Ohene, the new building that we see at science near the main library block is referred to as the Large Lecture Theatre (LLT), also known by students among students as “Taliban”, ”Cathedral”. Etc. the Large Lecture Theatre was erected so as to increase the number of teaching and examination centers that we have. It has come to help in the interim. As we know the student population has risen and the facilities available are not enough. We don’t have large examination centers. So far the venues we already depend on are the existing ones; Old Library (OL), Science Roof Top (SRT), Café Roof Top (CRT), Assembly Hall/Annex (AH/A), Faculty Lecture Rooms and now the Large Lecture Theatre (LLT). The usage of the top floor of the library had to be stopped because the library is also expanding and has been stored with books and journals. The Large Lecture Theatre is supposed to have a sitting capacity of 1000 but for examination purposes it reduces to 750 because there must be a well layout for easy movement. The large lecture theatre is funded by the African Development Bank, Government of Ghana and the GetFund. |
